Five months after stopping Fyers operation, Oliver, Shado and Slade discover mercenaries looking for some kind of burial ground. After encountering the mercenaries, the island threesome discover this burial ground, which is full of the disfigured remains of Japanese soldiers from World War II. Later Oliver is captured and brought aboard their ship Amazo where he meets Professor Anthony Ivo, whos looking for a wrecked submarine which contains a serum that he claims will save the human race. Meanwhile in the present, alderman Sebastian Blood has been wearing a freakish skull mask in his spare time as member of an underground cult. Hes also been testing something called The Miracle, a serum which kills most of the recipients and leaves them with blood leaking out of their eyes. It turns out that the Miracle is the same serum that they discovered on the island, its original name being Mirakuru. It continues to be ineffective until it finally works on cult brother Cyrus Gold, giving him enhanced strength and regenerative abilities. Oliver gets his ass kicked by Cyrus several times, but eventually beats him by setting off a machine that spills acid and chemicals on Cyrus face and seemingly killing him, although comic book fans expect Cyrus to return as a more zombified character in the future. As for where Blood is getting the serum from? More on that later.
