Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘The Longbow Hunters’

3. Diggle Finally Has Purpose

John Diggle is, without a doubt, one of Arrow's most integral characters. He has been a part of the show since the very beginning and has been, on many occasions, the glue that held Team Arrow together. However, he hasn't really done anything of value in recent years, and this was really highlighted last season when he threw a tantrum because Oliver wouldn't let him replace him as the Green Arrow.

This season, however, Diggle is leading the charge at A.R.G.U.S., working alongside his wife Lyla - a position that he had been previously putting off for years. Though the government organisation doesn't usually oversee criminal investigations, Diggle found himself on Diaz's trail due to a high-tech battery that was stolen by the Longbow Hunters. He then clashed with Felicity over how to deal with the threat.

After his former teammate challenged him about his refusal to wear the Green Arrow suit in Oliver's absence, he opened up - revealing that he couldn't do that to his family, essentially telling her he was happy doing his job at A.R.G.U.S. as it allowed him to help people without breaking the law. He then conveyed this through his actions as he engaged in a rather physical (and highly entertaining) battle with Diaz later in the episode.

If there's anything we learned from the season's second outing, it's that Diggle is finally relevant again. Let's hope he remains relevant for the rest of the season because he was truly great in this episode.
