Arrow Season 7: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Star City Slayer'

Ups...

5. The Horror Movie Vibe

Arrow S7 House
The CW

There isn’t much point in beating around the bush with this one: Arrow is at its best when it’s surrounded by darkness. The rest of The CW’s Arrowverse shows can venture off into multiverses or fight rainbow-spewing unicorns and totally pull it off, as long as Arrow distances itself from that completely. Though the writers have failed to realise that in the past, it seems like they’re once again fully aware of it, and this week’s episode was a perfect example of that.

With The Star City Slayer pulling all the strings, it was up to Dinah, Curtis, Rene and Diggle to track him down. This scenario set up some beautifully grim scenes as the team split up and ventured through the darkened corridors of a terrifyingly dilapidated (and large) house, unaware of what awaited them around the corner.

From the dark visuals and the lightning effects to the uncomfortably close shots of each character’s face, much of the episode was intentionally filmed like a horror movie. Throw in the odd bloody sequence, chilling score, and the edge-of-seat pacing, and it made for an unnerving watch - which is exactly the kind of stuff that Arrow thrives on.
