Arrow Season 7: What ‘Star City Slayer’s Ending Really Means

3. Black Canary No More

Arrow Season 7 Dinah Drake
The CW

Stanley's violent attack on SCPD Captain Dinah Drake was undoubtedly the episode's most jaw-dropping moment. His swift single slash to her throat wasn't just a genuinely terrifying jump-scare, it was a major game-changer for one of Arrow's core characters as it has, more than likely, left her without her Canary Cry.

Since her arrival on the show back in Season 5, Dinah has adopted the mantle of Black Canary - taking out criminals with her hand-to-hand combat skills while also utilising her powerful Cry. However, after she was outed in the aftermath of the show's 150th episode, she struggled with the fact that everyone knew that she was a former vigilante and worried that it would affect her career at the SCPD. So, while her future as a vigilante was already in doubt, could her sudden loss of her ability now point towards her full-time retirement from the Black Canary mantle?

As we already know from the flash-forwards, Dinah will eventually return to vigilantism even though she no longer possesses the meta ability, adopting an even more hardcore approach than before. However, while she will help Rene's daughter become a future "Canary", it appears that she will no longer go by the name of Black Canary.

It certainly looks like Dinah's days as the iconic comic book character are over and, as a result, it's very likely that the show's other Screamer may be destined to carry on Black Canary's legacy.
