Expect the big bad to really deliver the goods...

Good news for anyone who really wants Marvel to up their villain game: according to the screenwriters of Avengers: Infinity War, the Mad Titan at the story's heart is going to get the screen treatment that's been hinted at so far in the MCU. But he probably won't be surrounded by quite as many main characters as the Russos once suggested.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke withThe Huffington Postrecently and cast some doubt over the Russos' claim that Infinity War Parts One and Two would include ATLEAST 67 characters.

As Markus said: "Well, I mean that number is literally that number comes from the fact that that is everyone who has already been introduced. If you line up all the characters who are available to use from the prior Marvel Studios movies, it racks up to about 60-something characters, let alone the new ones you could bring in.€

Stephen McFeely then explained further:€œWe had our office filled with cards of everybody who was alive and available, and the brothers came in and went, €˜Whoa.€™ So that does not mean that everyone is, you know, there is not going to be 67 lead parts.€

So, even though there are a vast number of alive characters available (that might not even be the case by the time Infinity War kicks off), there's no guarantee that all of the characters would even be used. Like, will Luis from Ant-Man? Will the Warriors Three? Too many superfluous characters would just open the film to accusations of cannon fodder and double stuffing.

What is guaranteed, however, is that Thanos will get more screen time. The writers say it is their obligation to make sure the villain lives up to his billing; in that respect it's good to hear that he's the aspect of the films they're most excited to use:

"Really giving him good scenes. You know, he€™s never been the villain in any of the movies. He has never been the main character in that way, so giving lots of good screen time to Thanos is paramount and pretty fun.€

Markus outlined the specific issues they face:

€œThere€™s an aspect of, you know, people know what€™s coming, so our challenge is how best are we going to handle this somewhat known quantity. But also he€™s barely been touched on. He€™s at about 20 seconds of screen time.€

AndMcFeely added,€œHe hasn€™t had an amazing scene. I think it€™s an advantage ultimately, right? Because people are anticipating this guy coming in and really delivering the goods. So, I think they€™re eager, and we just have to deliver it. We don€™t have to convince them that he€™s gonna be interesting. We just have to execute what has been teased.€
