9. Erasing Your Ex

The Episode: In 2014 Christmas special White Christmas, the idea of blocking people on social media has been extrapolated to a new eyepiece technology that allows you to block people in everyday life. In particular, Rafe Spall's character is blocked by his wife after she dumps him - meaning they appear as vague grey shapes to each other and their speech is muffled.

How It Came True: Thankfully, we have not reached the point of full-on people blocking yet, but the idea of erasing your ex-partner from your personal existence has made some headway on social media.

In 2015, Google + started a service to "hide a person" - removing all photos of a certain individual from your albums and profile. Events that the person attended are also removed from the Google Rediscover app which lets your look at past events of your life.

The move led to much discussion about how technology is affecting the way we remember our lives - shunting out the potentially hurtful and focussing instead on the immediately positive. As White Christmas demonstrated, sometimes this mindset can be detrimental to your health.
