Black Mirror Season 4: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Hang The DJ

If any episode this season can even be hushed in the same breath as last season's excellent San Junipero, it's Hang the DJ, expertly directed by TV veteran Tim Van Patten (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wire).

Though a Black Mirror episode about the perils of algorithm-matched dating has the potential to feel a little obvious, this is a fascinatingly well-realised satire of the dispassionate dating rituals people put themselves through, but with a prospective technological twist.

Joe Cole and Georgina Campbell do marvellous work as a matched couple who find their affection struggling to prevail against the commands of "the system", and though comparisons to Yorgos Lanthimos' brilliant black comedy The Lobster aren't totally unfounded, thankfully this is a rare Black Mirror episode with a conclusion that's actually pretty sweet and satisfying.

Though not quite reaching the dizzying highs of San Junipero, it's an all-timer episode for the show regardless, boosted by the two lead performances and its undeniable real-world relevance.
