Community: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

Ranking six seasons, but not a movie (yet)!

Although the NBC/Yahoo! Screen sitcom Community never had the most viewers, the show developed a following of passionate fans who still to this day chant its iconic rallying cry of "Six Seasons and a Movie!"

The show delivered on the first half of that promise, with the first five seasons airing on NBC and the sixth coming to the short lived streaming service Yahoo! screen.

The show went through major changes throughout its run. After a while, cast members started dropping like flies, and the showrunner, Dan Harmon, was fired after the show's third season, but rehired for Season 5.

When it switched to Yahoo! Screen, the episodes were allowed to be slightly longer, rounding out to closer to a half hour than the first five season's standard 22 minutes. By the time of the series finale, Community felt like an entirely different series.

As such, all six seasons contain serious differences from each other, and this often translates to contrasting quality throughout Communty's run. Some seasons lack Community's signature charm entirely, while others feel like the perfect sitcom. Here is every season of Community ranked from worst to best.

6. Season 4

Most Community fans knew which season would rank last on this article before even clicking on it. Series creator Dan Harmon did not work on this season, and it shows. Though still a decent season of television overall, Season 4 is just not Community.

Several of the characters don't act like themselves all year - Abed is more childish and annoying than usual, Jeff seems to actually care about doing well in his school work, and Troy and Britta barely acknowledge that they are dating.

Once Dan Harmon comes back, this out of character behavior is justified in future seasons by a methane gas leak throughout Greendale affecting everyone's behavior. As such, Seasons 5-6, as well as some fans, refer to Season 4 as "The Gas Leak Year."

The Gas Leak Year isn't all bad, with some episodes like Paranormal Parentage, Herstory of Dance, and Basic Human Anatomy working really well. However, even they don't hold a candle to the rest of the series. Plus, some plot lines, like Changnesia and City College's scheme to take over Greendale, take up too much time but end up going nowhere. w

Additionally, many of the season's more creative episodes, like the puppet themed Intro to Felt Surrogacy, are more concerned with the gimmick than the jokes and story, unlike the show's other seasons.

You won't waste your time watching the Gas Leak Year, and it is nice seeing the study group all together one last time, but it's nowhere near as good as the rest of the series.
