Doctor Who: 10 Beautiful Things About 'The Time Of The Doctor'

10. Clara Is Us (still)

I've written at length about how Clara is a huge metaphor for the fans; her diary syncs with the show's and she's always been there for the Doctor in the background. When you think about it, the Doctor only visits her when he visits us: she travels with him once a week, like us. She has a job and a life away from the Doctor, like us. He picks her up for specials. The '...of the Doctor' trilogy only solidifies this metaphor. Only a true Doctor Who fan would know that it doesn't matter what his name is, and only a true Doctor Who fan would get emotional seeing their Doctor using the Moment; just like us, she has her Doctor, but knows them all, unlike any companion. And her Doctor's regeneration is a defining moment for Clara's character, just as it is for everyone she represents. Because it was Clara that didn't want the Doctor to go, not the Doctor himself. It was like she was speaking for us again, and that she was our lead into the show. Which a companion always should be, but that's easier than it sounds: how on Earth do you go about conveying an ordinary girl's reaction to the bloke she fancies combusting into Malcolm Tucker? Clara's side to the story was perfect though. It's how we'd react as fans of the Eleventh.
