Doctor Who: 10 Best NuWho Villains That Only Appeared Once

10. The Whisper Men

Episode: The Name of the Doctor There were plenty of things to like about the Series 7 finale, "The Name of Doctor," except perhaps a head scratcher of an ending, but never mind that. One of the bright spots in an episode with plenty, were these faceless, top hat wearing, rhyme-speaking, chill-inducing, servants of The Great Intelligence. In a Series which featured the return of several villains from classic Who, the introduction of a new villain in the finale could have fallen flat. Thankfully it doesn't, and throughout the episode The Whisper Men they never let up in their sense of dread. Giving us the chills from the moment we see them outside of Vastra's window, to their, rather dull, demise. Which leads nicely to our next point. The only flaw concerning The Whisper Men was the fact that once the Great Intelligence entered The Doctor's timeline, and The Whisper Men served no purpose anymore and simply vanished, Looper style. Which left us thinking, surely there was a better way to resolve their story? In an episode with a strong focus on the past and the future, The Whisper Men fit right in with the storyline. And although they are essentially henchmen, they proved worthy of a larger slice of time than would usually be devoted to a group henchmen. In any case they certainly helped kick-off the "of the Doctor" quadrilogy with a bang, and gave us a memorable one-off villain that won't be forgotten any time soon.
