The Fifth Doctor was a quieter chap than both the Doctor before, and the Doctor after. This line from 'Frontios' is one that really summed him up as a Doctor. Way before he was the Oncoming Storm, the Doctor was a summer cloud. It's a fitting simile; he's lonely, breezing across skies with little consequence, but when he stays, it often gets a lot darker. It's a line that both sums up the ephemeral nature of the Doctor's visits, and the effect he has on the world; to some he's beautiful, and to others, he's hugely unwanted. And the humility with it's delivered is equally as beautiful; in the wrong sentence, it's a bombastic, self-aggrandising simile. Maybe it's perhaps down the charm of Peter Davison though that this quote comes off as a painfully aware and poignant self-portrait.
