Doctor Who: 10 Things We Want To See In 'The Day Of The Doctor'

9. Classic Doctors (in some capacity!)

Now, we are pretty much completely in the dark on this little matter. I know that a fair few people see this as a Nu Who special at the moment, failing to recognise the original series in all its glory. Some may still be clinging to the idea of €˜The 11 Doctors€™ (presumably achieved through some stand-in actors, the still-living Doctors, archive footage and wax works), but I just don€™t think 11 Doctors at the core of the story could work at all. Personally, this writer is of the opinion that (with the exception of McGann and, at a push, Davison), the classic actors are just too old to play their Doctors effectively again. For example, I saw Colin Baker at a convention recently and he just doesn€™t look all that similar to his Doctor anymore €“ sadly, it was hard to even imagine him putting the coat on, let alone running around helping Matt Smith in a brand new adventure. That doesn€™t mean that the classic Docs can€™t feature in some way though. Judging by the parody protest pictures and the recent tweet of a call-sheet by Tom Baker, it seems they are filming something and that they are indeed in contact with Cardiff. Although the top rumour is that they are filming some kind of real-world Children In Need-style skit, there are certainly ways they could feature in the episode without being main characters. With The Doctor€™s timeline crashing around him, could we not see more glimpses of the former Doctors in mortal peril? Or old Docs aging and dying due to timey wimey problems brought on by 11€™s decision to jump into his own timeline? Even something as simple as an introductory voiceover featuring classic Doctors, or an all-inclusive establishing shot akin to the new teaser trailer, could be a nice nod to the classic years. Seeing as glimpses and catchphrases of former Doctors have featured heavily in Moffat-era scripts, we should definitely be expecting some kind of reference, if not a full-blown inclusion.
