Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Lost

The sonic screwdriver can't fix every situation.

For fifty one years now, the Doctor has been a hero to children of all ages everywhere. Armed with only his magic wand AKA sonic screwdriver, he tumbles about the universe in a box that's bigger on the inside, righting wrongs and fighting monsters as he goes. As Peter Capaldi's current moodier incarnation of the character shows, sometimes doing good is hard but he always manages it. The Doctor always wins. Doesn't he? At the end of the recent series finale, when he thought he was going to end up with blood on his hands, the Doctor said something very rare to the Master: "you win." Of course, in this case the Doctor€™s hands were wiped clean (thanks Cyberbrig) but there have been occasions when the Doctor did in fact lose. He always saves the planet, yes, but there have been many times when the Doctor has been forced to betray his morals €“ or even lose a friend €“ in the process. As the Twelfth Doctor reminded us this series, "sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones but you still have to choose." So read on for a look at those rare times when, whisper it, the Doctor didn't actually win.
