Doctor Who: 5 Reasons Eleven's Regeneration Will Be Incredibly Heartbreaking

5. New Doctor, Same Companion

We haven€™t had this happen in New Who since Nine€™s regeneration. Even though the circumstances are incredibly different, we still have the basis of what we had with Nine and Rose: The Doctor and a companion who are best friends with questionable feelings towards each other, and she has to watch his face change in front of her. We also have the added bonus that by now everyone who watches Doctor Who knows what a regeneration is, so we don€™t need the Doctor to explain what€™s about to happen like Nine did for the audience. This'll leave time for a great speech from Eleven €“ but more on that later. Obviously the difference with Clara is that she€™s seen all eleven faces, so we won€™t have to have the Doctor explain regeneration €“ she should have figured it out on her own by now. It is worth mentioning that it€™s possible Clara isn€™t aware of how it happens, and watching will probably be horrible for her. After all, she was born to save the Doctor, essentially possibly stopping regenerations from occurring. This means that Jenna Coleman has an opening to give a heart-wrenching performance as Clara watches her best friend change right before her eyes. She knows it happens, but she€™s never seen it €“ what happens when she finally can€™t save the Doctor and he has to regenerates? Clara€™s reaction is sure to be one of the many things that will make the audience€™s hearts break, but hopefully we€™ll see her regain her attitude towards Twelve and get a few jokes about the obvious age difference.

I'm currently attending my local college while trying to figure out who I am. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, really any BBC show. I've also been told I'm a bit of a nerd. Specifically, a theatre nerd.
