Doctor Who: 5 Ways The 12th Doctor's Era Should Be Like The 3rd's (And 1 Way It Shouldn't)

4. Bring Back The Master

This is inevitable. We know it will happen at some point. Given the huge shadow the Master cast over the Third Doctor€™s time, perhaps it is time to bring him back. Now we don€™t need to get into a situation like we had in the Third Doctor€™s era where, for one season, literally every. Single. Episode. Featured the Master. But it would be terribly nice to see him back again provided that we see a version more like the Delgado incarnation. You see the Master was, back in the day, a Moriarty type of character. He was cool and sophisticated. He was polite where the Doctor was rude and brusque. Yes, he€™d kill you, but you got the impression he wouldn€™t do so unless he thought he really needed to. Later versions would kill you because it was Tuesday. They became agents of chaos and evil for the sake of chaos and evil. We never quite had a time where the Master was gloating about how €œdeliciously EVIL!€ he was, but, man, were we ever close. So let€™s bring back the Master, but bring him back as a much more subdued version of the character. No more lightning-riding John Simm, as good as he was.
