Upstairs Cover Large Well, here we are. A few days into October and we're finally getting my review of the September releases for Big Finish. Sorry about the delay! I'll try to be more timely next month. Anyhow, on with the show! The Companion Chronicles 8.03 €“ "Upstairs"

When the TARDIS lands in a dilapidated attic, the Doctor, Vicki and Steven discover they are on Earth, in London... in Number 10 Downing Street. However alien forces are at play here, affecting the very fabric of the building... and adjusting the very essence of history itself.
This is an odd little tale. It's hard not to get a little creeped out when your primary antagonist is a fungus, and the setting, the attics in Number 10, is quite an interesting one. The way it's used as a setting is quite fascinating, too. I honestly can't say that I've seen too many more original concepts in any form of Doctor Who. Peter Purves is his usual excellent self as Steven, and Maureen O'Brien does a great job as Vicki. I do wish there was at least one other cast member; there's a bit too much narration and monologing for my tastes, but that minor complaint aside, this was a good, solid audio and a real treat for fans of the First Doctor's era.
