Doctor Who: 10 Actors Who Should Be Capaldi's Next Companion

8. Joe Sims

Broadchurch features its fair share of faces from Doctor Who's past, but it might also contain a couple of stars of the future. Joe Sims played the nice but dim plumber "Nige" Carter and faced a horror show of a mother and a murder charge. Sims would be the first Bristolian NuWho companion. Possessing hidden depths, he has an acclaimed track record in the theatre, so acting chops are present to back up the amusingly out of depth performance he may give. Him walking wide-eyed into the TARDIS could be just the thing Capaldi's grumpy Gallifreyan is looking for. There's been a scarcity of muscle amongst the crew of late and the combination of elbow grease and slow wits will surely infuriate the thousand year old hero, leading to some classic outbursts. However, as John Steed required Gareth Hunt in The New Avengers, the ageing Doctor will need someone to fight his battles for him - often quite literally, too.
