Doctor Who: 10 Roles That Prove The Perfect Casting Of Peter Capaldi

3. Balthazar - The Nativity

The Nativity Peter Capaldi Look closely. One of those turbaned men is our new Doctor. The BBC did a miniseries based on the biblical account of the Nativity and in this case, Peter Capaldi played Balthasar, one of the three magi. Capaldi does a marvelous job with the role and demonstrates what I think is a requisite characteristic of any Doctor. He has gravitas and respect and wonder down to a science. He is a man of faith, but a man of great intelligence. It is impossible to see the adventures of the man from Gallifrey without expecting him to be a kind of historical tourist. His better roles are when he is more of a pilgrim than a tourist, though, and Peter's depiction of Balthasar fits that marvelously.
