‘In the Forest of the Night’ is another episode which is far from terrible, but it’s let down by a flimsy premise that never manages to get off the ground.

The story centres around a school fieldtrip led by Clara and Danny as they attempt to find a missing student in the midst of one of many forests that have sprung up across the globe overnight.

Such a peculiar premise gives the episode an uncomfortable tone which remains prevalent throughout, and some of the later story beats are even more ridiculous.

Thankfully, the episode is somewhat salvaged by the humour. Though the comedic element isn’t overly prevalent, the amusing moments do land when they’re supposed to. The Doctor’s interactions with the school children are particularly funny. As such, ‘In the Forest of the Night’ is worth watching for veterans of the show.

Yet it’s still one of the weaker episodes of Doctor Who due to the bizarre premise which never manages to morph into something worthy of interest.
