Doctor Who: 11 Beloved Characters Who Were Only In One Episode

Sometimes it's over before it's truly begun.

The Doctor is always forming close knit friendships and allegiances with people he encounters on his ongoing universal escapades but not all of them are lucky enough to join him in the TARDIS as his fully fledged time travelling co-resident. A lot of them have certainly got what it takes to be enlisted as the Time Lord's new coveted companion but, for whatever reason, far too many of his fleeting friends end up being confined to the realms of characters who could've been and done so much more. And it makes sense, really. As infinite as the TARDIS is in size, it would become pretty cramped if the Doctor invited all of his temporary cohorts aboard the iconic blue box. It would also detract from the significance of those he does entrust his lifestyle upon, if he was literally handing out the TARDIS keys to everyone and their mother (River Song and Amy Pond notwithstanding). To commemorate the 10th anniversary of NuWho this week, here are 11 beloved characters from the last decade who only ever appeared in one episode. They came, they did, they kicked some serious butt... but evidently not enough to warrant a future return (OK, most of them died, so it's hardly their fault!). Either way, these are the one off figures who only needed one episode to leave a lasting impression on time and space. The Doctor was proud to have been affiliated with them, even if it was only for a short while...
