Doctor Who: 12 Annoying Characters, Companions And Villains

12. The Gelth

Gelth Whilst The Unquiet Dead looked promising to begin with, it failed to deliver on expectations. Zombies roaming around Victorian Cardiff, and yet not zombies. Cadavers posessed by an unearthly spirit that had come with the house purchased by undertaker Mister Sneed. He brings his psychic maid, Gwyneth, with him. Except that poor Gwyneth was fooled wasn't she, when the spirits told her they were her Angels. They, of course, were The Gelth; a seemingly harmless, rather insipid alien race who begged for Gwyneth to help them return to their home planet. All well and good so far; the kindly Gwyneth, an orphan who is sympathetic to their plight, agrees to allow The Gelth to channel themselves into her so that they can use her energy to return home. But wait! What is this towering red thing that is suddenly above Gwyneth shouting threats and saying that it needed her psychic energy to come to earth properly? Why is it instilling fear into the hearts of absolutely no-one - not even Charles Dickens, who realises what he must do to save the day and acts upon it? In essence, The Gelth aren't frightening; they're just silly and a waste of an hour of your life. Good premise though; I'll give the episode that, at least.
