Doctor Who: 6 Great Fifth Doctor Stories

3. Kinda (Story 118, 1982)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbABzTj-DXo One of the ongoing problems with the old series, is that the characters, especially the companions, were usually the same at the start of their time in the TARDIS as they were at the end of it. There are a few exceptions (see the next entry for a companion who was a bit flatter by the end of their time in the TARDIS), but for the most part there wasn€™t any real character development. A distinct exception to this rule was Tegan. She€™s notable for leaving the TARDIS twice, and for becoming more and more disenchanted with the Doctor as time went on. This episode, where she€™s possessed by an alien entity, was really the start of all this. This episode is also notable for showing what a great actress Janet Fielding could be when given a chance. She makes the possessed version of Tegan into someone interesting and even menacing; a far cry from what the character usually is, and something definitely worth looking at, even if the subsequent sequel is a bit €œmeh€.
