Doctor Who Review: Flatline - 10 Ways Writer Jamie Mathieson Shines

10. A Minefield In Bristol

Clara begins the story with a lie of omission. She justifies her travels with the Doctor by pretending everything is OK as long as Danny never notices her time away. A partner does not have the right to dictate the other person€™s choices but relationships are likely to fall apart under the weight of so much dishonesty. Clara is quick to accuse the Doctor of callousness but she does not mind toying with Danny€™s emotions to get what she wants. While Clara is pretending to be someone she€™s not, Rigsy is declaring who he is in the only way he knows how. Graffiti is an act of defiance against an authority that ignores the voices of the undervalued. Rigsy is the one who senses there is something wrong on the estate and tries to do something about it even as he is ridiculed and demeaned. The evidence is clearly painted on the walls. Yet few choose to pay attention.
