Doctor Who Review: The Caretaker – 10 Clues To What The Doctor Is Doing

Are big changes ahead for the caretaker? He's got a broom you know.

WARNING! SPOILERS: This post contains spoilers and speculation for the Doctor Who series eight episode €œThe Caretaker€. The Doctor is facing a truth inconvenient to his ego. Every person is a crowd. Who we are perceived as depends on how we are observed. Staring out of our deceptive faces is a multitude of curious eyes. We are forged of elements birthed in the heart of a star, crafted of chaos, combined into a single sentient entity. Labeling a person as one thing is like allowing a stopped clock to dictate a life. It is accurate twice a day. The rest of the time it is something different, no matter what it is called. €œThe Caretaker€ is a breezy construct of people talking past each other. While it may be thin on plot it is rich in the exploration of relationship dynamics. It is built on the lies we tell ourselves and the people around us to hide the parts the other may not like. The Doctor, Clara and Danny dance around poking at the thin veneer of the masks they wear but never quite touch what€™s underneath. Let€™s talk about the mess they€™ve made and how they clean it up.
