Doctor Who Series 11 Finale: 10 Things That Must Happen In 'The Battle Of Ranskoor Av Kolos'

9. Return Of The Soletract Frog

Doctor Who Finale
BBC Studios

The ending to It Takes You Away is yet another divisive moment for Chris Chibnall’s first season as showrunner. The positives were the soulful storytelling in places, a misunderstood antagonist done well and a trippy, classic sci fi feel to the whole affair. However, the fact it was a talking frog at the end of it all left some fans disappointed.

It’s quirky and offbeat, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the show. But Graham saw the love of his life, and there was something profound about that. The doctor could’ve seen Rose, or River, or even first ever assistant Susan Foreman. Instead, she got an amphibian.

A mere one episode later (and in a finale that will likely be very busy anyway) might be too soon to bring the frog back. But it seemed to have some impact on the Doctor. While memories are kept during regeneration, it’s true that Whittaker’s Thirteenth hasn’t connected with companions on as deep a level as Tennant’s Tenth. That’s no criticism of her; but Yaz & Ryan are old friends and Graham & Ryan are family.

Will anything come of the talking frog? Or will its first appearance also be its last?
