Chris Chibnall sends off his first series with a passable bang.

Here we are. Doctor Who Series 11 is over. After 10 episodes, it's safe to say Jodie Whittaker's first outing as the Doctor has been moderately successful. Even if the writing has let down both episodes and actors alike, there have been some pretty special moments throughout. But the focus right now is on the finale.

The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos puts Chibnall himself back in the writer's seat, and expectations were middling to say the least. His run through to the middle of the series was turbulent, and all eyes were on him to wrap up this series spectacularly.

So did he pull it off? Let's find out, starting out with the negatives, and beware, spoilers.

3. Ryan Is Useless (Again)

It's been a sticking point for most of the series. The balance of companions and their relevance being equal across the board across the entire episode has never really been struck, except for Kerblam! in my opinion. Ryan once again is relegated to nothing but semi-meaningless lines pointing out the obvious now and again.

Tosin Cole is a talented actor, so it's a shame that he appears to be pulling the short straws almost every episode. This balancing act is proving difficult for the writers. So much so, just to make sure no-one completely fades out into the background, they just drop someone who hasn't spoken in a while a line here or there. This is pretty much Ryan’s whole point in this show, and it sucks. It’s like you’re playing a video game, and you give your little brother who really wants to play a controller that’s not plugged in so that he feels like he’s part of it all. Chibnall, plug his darn controller in!
