Doctor Who Series 12: Everything We Know So Far

Team TARDIS returns - and some familiar faces will be joining them.

Waiting for something that you're used to having on your screen throughout the year is hard, and that's exactly what Doctor Who fans are going through right now.

Having grown accustomed to getting a brand-new batch of episodes almost every year, the omission of any timey-wimey adventures in 2019 sticks out like a bright red fez, and it genuinely feels like the New Year's Day special aired a million years ago.

On the plus side, the year is slowly drawing to a close, which means that we're insanely close to another full series hitting our screens. While Jodie Whittaker's debut run as Time Lord number thirteen wasn't exactly top-tier Doctor Who, the show has had some rough patches before, and there's always hope that the new series will be able to expand on any positive elements, while wiping the weaker ones from existence.

With these new episodes only a few months away from airing, it's a good time to recap all the major bits of information we know about them, from story details to returning villains - and even a somewhat specific release date. Allons-y!

7. The Main Cast (And Showrunner) Are All Returning

Starting out with an obvious but still important piece of information, Series 12 will see the return of core cast members Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill, as well as Chris Chibnall as showrunner and head writer.

The BBC confirmed all of this shortly after The Battle Of Ranskoor Av Kolos - the Series 11 finale - aired in December last year. There was actually some speculation among fans that one of the companions might die/leave the TARDIS in that episode (or in the New Year's Day special), but, clearly, that didn't happen.

In terms of the rest of the cast and crew (that we know about), writers Ed Hime (It Takes You Away) and Nina Metivier (Series 11's script editor) will pen an episode each, while Doctor Who newcomers Jamie Stone, Emma Sullivan and Lee Haven Jones are on directing duties.
