Doctor Who: Why Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Is Already PERFECT

4. Mixing Alien Otherness With Genuine Humanity

Doctor Who is very often at its best when it brings its alien titular character to Earth, and the Series 11 premiere is a shining example of that. Whittaker's take on the Doctor - still somewhat confused by the regeneration - stands apart by being odd and otherworldly, but with just enough there to convince us of her time spent on Earth and around humans.

She might be an alien, but there's a great sense of humanity, and human decency, to this Doctor already. Here's someone who genuinely cares and wants to help, which is what the Doctor should always be. Peter Capaldi's take on the character as brilliant at times - even if the writing wasn't always up to scratch - but he was often too cold and distant (along with an anger that comes with hiring the man who played Malcolm Tucker), and Whittaker gives off a much more immediate sense of fitting as the Doctor by letting both the alien and the human shine through.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
