Emmys 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

24. Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

Game of Thrones Jaime Lannister
HBO

Nominees: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Game of Thrones; Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones; Mandy Patinkin, Homeland; David Harbour, Stranger Things; Matt Smith, The Crown; Joseph Fiennes, The Handmaid’s Tale

Should Win: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Coster-Waldau has been doing great work as Jaime Lannister for years without Emmys recognition, and while Season 7 wasn't Thrones' best, it was a great showcase for his work. He got to play the hero and the villain at the same time in The Spoils of War (the episode he's nominated for here), carrying the instalment as its central figure, while across the whole season he perfectly portrayed the anguish and struggle as he turned away from Cersei and towards redemption.

Will Win: David Harbour

This is a category without a completely obvious standout, but Harbour's soaring popularity and the likelihood of greater recognition for Stranger Things' second season make him the favourite. He won the Critics Choice Award, and was nominated for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards too, and he has less competition here.
