On the surface, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead couldn't be any more different: one is an epic drama about a man going from being a chemistry teacher to drug overlord, and the other a post-apocalypse zombie series. And yet, the two have a fair amount in common.
Debuting within a couple of years of each other, they were both hugely important in cementing AMC as a top player in the cable market. Both series follow complicated individuals as the main protagonists, have been buoyed by Netflix viewership, and exist in worlds where people look to change the rules to suit them as they attempt to take control of their surroundings.
The massive popularity of both has seen each show get a spin-off series that actually serves as a prequel, but do the two shows themselves share a universe? It's a little unlikely, since they're so different, and take place in different parts of the U.S. At the very least, though, there have been a number of Easter eggs and references throughout The Walking Dead's run which, if not confirming that Breaking Bad is a prequel to the zombie apocalypse, at least makes for a lot of fun nods towards its fellow AMC series.
