Fox Cancels Terra Nova

The only chance for Terra Nova to get a second season is if another network picks it up for renewal in the coming weeks.

Fox have cancelled "Terra Nova" after just one season, it has been announced. The high budgeted pre-historic drama was always seen as vulnerable for the chop after mediocre ratings and little critical interest and after weeks of coming up with ideas that could keep it on the network, Fox decided to officially pull the plug yesterday. The only chance for Terra Nova to get a second season is if another network picks it up. This may not be impossible given that Steven Spielberg, Brannon Braga and Peter Chernin who produce the show are big names, and international sales have been strong for 20th Century Fox TV (a sibling for Fox) for the Stephen Lang and Jason O'Mara starrer and there is a glimmer hope that it may get renewed. But the smart money is on the end of Shannon family's plight 85 millions years in the past. Back in January, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said about the future of the show; €œIf this is all we make (of Terra Nova), we made money on it, the studio made money on it, and it seems to have resonated with the family audience,€ he said. €œThere is a show, which if we are to bring back, there€™s an audience there. But creatively, the show was hunting (for its identity). If we had more holes in our network, we€™d be thrilled to lock that right in.€ Fox are also losing House this year and midseason starters Alcatraz and The Finder expecting to be cut before renewal... a need for more programming could end up being the saving grace for Fringe, which Deadline reports could get a 13-episode pickup if the budget can be cut down for another season.
