Friday The 13th TV Series Gears Up At CW

Jason's coming home...to your home.

It's been over six years since we last saw Jason Voorhees. Despite occasional soundbites regarding the development of various sequels and reboots since 2009, the shonky but sort of fun Platinum Dunes remake remains the last produced Friday the 13th credit. That might change very soon though, with CW reportedly planning an entire TV series around the blade-wielding momma's boy. The CW want their spin on Jason to adopt a more traditional, procedural format, with a detective searching for his missing brother around the Crystal Lake area; following the reemergence of Jason's legend. It's hard to imagine Jason won't feature heavily, he's the franchise MVP after all and its most marketable asset, but it would be cool to see him utilized as a local myth rather than the chief antagonist. In that instance, I could see the series searching for a True Detective vibe, but if so, what's the point in using the Friday the 13th brand to begin with? It's worth remembering that the 2009 remake also featured a brother searching for his lost sibling, although both of those characters fit snugly within the franchise's tradition of teenage/20-something leads. Here our heroes sound a little older, perhaps like the audience, having grown up with Jason's legacy since the early 80s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpKdXnXl93s No word on when we can expect the series to bow, but it has secured the support of original director Sean S. Cunningham in the capacity of producer.
