Fringe Finale: 9 Huge Questions That Must Be Answered

9. Alternate Timelines

machineeditedHaving toyed gently with alternate timelines in a few of the earlier episodes, the producers made their biggest narrative gamble at the end of season 3 when Peter was deleted from time by the Observers (something that frustrated many fans, but I€™d argue was just what the series needed to continue bucking the trends of traditional shows). This thrust us into an unfamiliar timeline in the fourth season as we saw Peter gradually return to the show and dealing with the fact his original timeline no longer exists. We have also seen a few other possible futures such the one where a one-eyed Senator Broyles had Walter locked up for years, or the one where Walter and the team had sent the machine back into the past. We also know that elements of all timelines do still exist, considering the Observers are aware of multiple threads and, as we€™ve seen, truths from other timelines can bleed through to the current one like they did when Olivia's memory 'returned'. The Questions: Which timeline will we be left with? Is anything from season 1-3 still historical fact (particularly relevant to some other outstanding mysteries)? Have we already seen glimpses of the timeline that we€™re left with after the events of the final 3 episodes?
