Much as you would expect from the show that invented the term ‘sexposition,’ Game of Thrones isn’t exactly shy about its characters getting their kit off. Even newcomers and non-book readers knew from episode one that they were witnessing something adult –series MVP Tyrion is introduced in a whorehouse, and soon ends up under a pile of naked women.

But even among HBO’s finest, Thrones stands out like that sex-obsessed cousin you stay away from at family reunions. There’s just so much of it, all the time. As this SNL skit pointed out, it often seems as if sex is thrown into the dramatic mix just to keep your interest like a welcoming host would dig out the good china.

Yet it’s not quite so clear-cut as that. Yes, some of the sex scenes are gratuitous – Littlefinger’s monologue mixed with lesbians certainly stands out – but the vast majority make perfect sense within the story or that character’s development.

Yet still, some of these scenes are pretty damn awkward. Whether it’s due to the repercussions of the two characters getting it on or just how brutal/awful the scene turns out to be, many of Thrones’ sex scenes will leave you squirming in your seat, wishing you could hit fast forward.

So without further ado, here’s a rundown of the most awkward sex scenes in Game of Thrones. Be warned, SPOILERS lie ahead. If you’re not up to speed with the TV series, then go watch it first. You have been warned.
