Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Blood Of My Blood'

How do you begin to follow an episode like The Door?

The previous instalment was filled with such a huge emotional moment that tears had hardly had time to dry before this one rolled around, and it's no real surprise or shame that it didn't quite live up to it.

That's not saying Blood Of My Blood was bad, more just a compliment to how great last week's episode was. And in fairness, it picks things up right where they left off, with Bran and Meera trying to escape the oncoming wights, and that provides one of the episode's strongest storylines (and finally brings a much-desired book character to screen... sort of).

The show skips over some key locations this week, with Castle Black and Meereen both getting a break (unsurprising in the case of the former, with Jon gone; probably needed for the latter). In their place we get a new location, Horn Hill, and a return to the Riverlands. Elsewhere, things moved forward in Braavos and King's Landing, and the whole episode seemed to zip by so quickly that by the time Dany was rallying the troops and the credits rolled, I was thinking 'what, it's over already?!'

That's the sign of an enjoyable episode, if not one that involves you as emotionally invested as The Door (and honestly, I'm not sure I could handle that every week). Although it had a couple of issues, it was another strong outing, and here's what was good about Blood Of My Blood.
