One of the first major Westerosi events that we know of is the Age of Heroes, which occurred roughly around 10,000 years before Aegon's Conquest, after the invasion of Westeros by the First Men from Essos two thousand years prior (for reference, the events of Game of Thrones take place around 300AC).

After the invasion, a pact was signed between the First Men and the Children of the Forest, and ultimately this led to the foundation of Westeros as we still know it: the Age of Heroes saw the formation of House Stark, by Bran the Builder, and House Lannister, by Lann the Clever, among others.

However, while that was an era of peace, it did give way to the harshest winter ever known, referred to as the Long Night. This is when the Others/White Walkers descended from the far North (the Land(s) of Always Winter), a darkness fell across Westeros, and famine and terror destroyed all in their path, with the Others raising their dead and marching a destructive path.

The First Men and the Children of the Forest united to defeat them, which happened after the discovery that they could be killed by dragonglass, with the ultimate fight known as the Battle for Dawn - this is where, legend has it, Azor Ahai wielded Lightbringer and brought victory for the world. After this, Bran the Builder (supposedly) built the Wall, before going on to found House Stark and Winterfell.

It's a fascinating and absolutely crucial time period, and one that offers up some of the hallmarks of Game of Thrones - the Battle for Dawn could be epic - and brings with it legendary figures who could make for interesting characters, shed more light on the White Walkers, and have more of a sci-fi/fantasy feel to it than the main series. Borenstein, after Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, could be a good fit for writing this one, given it'd include monsters and giants.
