Game Of Thrones: All The Hidden Messages & Meanings In Season 8 Teaser Trailer

8. The Starks Reunite Down There

Game of Thrones Winterfell Crypts
HBO

We've already heard that the opening scene of Season 8 will mirror a key sequence from the very first episode of Game of Thrones, where King Robert and his procession arrived at Winterfell. Indeed, we've already seen a tiny glimpse of this, with a less-than-pleased Sansa welcoming Daenerys to her home, telling her "Winterfell is yours."

Those words were said to Robert by Ned, and not long after he demanded to be taken to the Crypts to pay his respects to Lyanna. In Season 7, when Arya returned to Winterfell, she made her way to visit her father's statue, where she was joined by Sansa for their reunion.

It'd fit, then, if once the pleasantries are done, the three remaining Stark children go down to the Crypts in the opening episode. Welcoming Dany and co is great, but the Starks coming back together for the first time since the second episode needs more weight to it, and having that in the Crypts gives it that and calls back to the pilot at the same time.
