Game Of Thrones Finale: 10 Characters No One Expected To Make It To The End

9. Grey Worm

Game Of Thrones Brienne
HBO

Grey Worm seemed destined to depart the show in The Long Night. The preceding episode saw him and Missandei plan a happy ending, which is pretty much a sure fire way to earn yourself a tragic death.

However, he ended up surviving the battle, with the show subverting our expectations and instead killing off Missandei in the episode after. While there’s nothing wrong with the show flipping the script every now and then, Grey Worm has survived more than a few brushes with death.

In the Long Night itself, he and the Unsullied held firm against the dead, allowing the Northerners to retreat.

Just like the Dothraki though, any damage done to their forces seemed only temporary, as they were back for Daenerys’ attack on King’s Landing, and will likely feature heavily in the finale.

Grey Worm also survived the attack which killed Selmy, and defended Dany when the Harpy’s swarmed her. He’s grown in stature as the series has gone on; when first introduced he appeared to be just another soldier, and not many would have bet on him lasting this long.

As it turns out, he’s crucial going into the episode, being one of Dany’s loyalest allies.
