With production getting underway, news is slowly starting to trickle out about Game of Thrones Season 8. And while the crew are going to increasingly extreme measures to prevent spoilers from leaking out, one thing that does inevitably come to light is casting news.

A couple of weeks ago there was a casting call for a number of new characters, the biggest of which was a 'Mercenary'. Aged 35-50, he was described as "an authoritative, fit, cool and charismatic military type."

At the time it was speculated this would be the leader of the Golden Company, and now we know that's correct - and also know the man who'll be playing him.

Thanks to Watchers on the Wall (who first broke the casting call news too), it's been revealed that German actor Marc Rissmann (Into The Badlands) is taking on the role, although it appears his CV has since been changed, presumably to try and prevent the news from getting out. Before that happened, though, the name of Rissmann's character was spotted: Harry Strickland.

Strickland is the leader of the Golden Company in A Song of Ice and Fire, albeit one who has very little resemblance to Rissmann. Homeless Harry Strickland is an older, portly man with thinning grey hair, and is thought of as a coward. Rissmann, quite clearly, is the opposite in a physical sense, and doesn't look like the cowardly type either.

As the series draws to its end, it has moved further away from the books, and Strickland could well be the last character they adapt for the screen (unless Howland Reed does turn up in the present day). With just six episodes left, and the character only slated to appear in two of those, there's not a lot of time for Rissmann to make a big impact. However, the Golden Company could be an important part of Cersei's storyline, and this at least gives them a face, and means we should be seeing them in action at least once.
