Game Of Thrones Season 7: Episode 2 Will Feature A Fan Favourite Return

Welcome back, old friend.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Nymeria
HBO

No, not Gendry. Though he's going to turn up very soon.

Thanks to the teaser trailer attached to the first episode of the epic HBO series, it appears that we might be about to meet a character who disappeared all the way back in season 1. Nymeria, Arya's direwolf, is about to return.

We've heard hints of her return for a while now, after the company who supply the animals on the show accidentally confirmed that two wolves were being used (Jon Snow's Ghost was never in question, even if he's been absent since part-way through season 6). And now the teaser features the snarling face of a creature bearing an uncanny resemblance to the missing beast.

Nymeria disappeared, of course, after cementing her status as a fan favourite by chomping down on Joffrey (a crime Sansa's pet, Lady, paid for with her life), and in the books her exile led to her leading her own pack of wolves. Whether that will happen again in the show remains to be seen, but judging by the small snatch of footage seen, there's going to be drama around her return.

Perhaps we'll see a pay-off of Arya's scene with the Lannister soldiers when they realise she is legitimately intent on killing Cersei and turn on her? That would set up Nymeria's heroic return nicely, as well as giving those fans who weren't impressed by Ed Sheeran's cameo a chance to see him brutally savaged.

More likely, Arya will come across Nymeria and realise that she is better off with her own pack, rather than in isolation with Arya. That will then compel her back North to her family, rather than pushing her to King's Landing, where she'd probably end up being killed.
