Game Of Thrones Season 8: 7 Clues From Episode 3's Trailer

Time to say goodbye...

Brienne Game Of Thrones
HBO

The opening act of the finale season of Game Of Thrones is now over, all of the chess pieces are in place, all relationships are renewed and we've all been reminded exactly why we love all of the characters we so dearly cherish. Disaster isn't just looming, it's pitched a tent outside the door and knocking urgently to get in.

After the delightful slow build of "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms" and some of its heart-warming pay-offs, we're now getting into the real nastiness of The Battle Of Winterfell. The Dead are here, Jon and Dany's forces have another ridiculous plan (this time to use a weirdo confined to a wheelchair defended by about 4 Iron Born and The Artist Formerly Known As Theon Greyjoy as bait) and we're all about to start crossing names off our Dead Pool lists.

With all of that in mind, HBO have released the teaser for the next episode when sh*t begins to get really real. It's dark - in both sense of the word since it appears nobody in this show has paid their electricity bills recently - and it looks to set up a pretty heaet-stopping episode.

Here's the trailer...

While it might appear there's no much in there to unpack, there actually is a fair bit if you dig a little deeper...

7. The Whole Episode Is Just A Battle...

House Aryn Brienne Game Of THrones
HBO

Right, so, getting the most obvious "revelation" out of the way immediately, it's clear that the bulk of this episode - if not more than 90% of it, will be the Battle of Winterfell.

Much of the trailer acts as a mood board for the Battle, showing us the build up, the various heroic elements on the verge of engagement and things like the realisation of Jaime's request to fight under Brienne. Judging by some of the wider shots, this is going to be an incredible spectacle, which you should already know, given that Miguel Sapochnik is the man in the director's chair.

Interestingly, one of the establishing shots confirms that the remaining Knights of the Vale are actually still at Winterfell alongside Lord Yohn Royce. Quite where young Lord Robin Arryn is at this point is anyone's guess.

Anyway, huge scale, major threat, massive stakes. That's the general tale of the trailer, but look deeper and there's more...
