Game Of Thrones Season 8 Trailer Review: 7 Ups And 5 Downs

6. The Hinted Threat Is Huge

Game Of Thrones Hound
HBO

From that opening, we get to see a lot of people - most of whom we love - in various difficult situations. Arya is fleeing, Jaime fights for his life, someone looking like Tormund battles surrounded by fire... And more noticeably than anything else, there are characters here who you'd expect to be pretty stoic looking very dishelved indeed.

It's not just Arya either, but seeing her covered in mud, scorched by smoke and bloodied is startling, and so too is seeing Jaime - still one of the most skilled fighters in this universe - desperately shouting out for aid or in query of an ally. And even more unsettling is the very brief shot of the Hound bathed in fire, but in a similar condition to Arya and Jaime. If these heroes are in this condition, all bets are off.

And on more subtle levels, the sight of Cersei crying, Grey Worm grimacing and even a hint of Jorah's fear right at the end are not thing we've seen too much of. And it's all tied to what we can't see.
