Game Of Thrones Spoiler Leak May Face HBO Lawsuit

When you play the game of thrones, you win - or get sued.

Youtube user Dr. Jose Senaris may soon have to make like a Lannister and pay his debts - as HBO apparently have grounds on which take criminal or civil charges against him.

Senaris is a unusually well-informed Game of Thrones fan from Spain who regularly posts videos about the show, and has leaked some closely guarded plot details ahead of time. Naturally the show's network are none too pleased about this - not to mention being a bit puzzled as to just where he's getting his information from.

We've all had shows and movies spoiled for us ahead of time, and while it can be frustrating, we generally just brush it off - yet it seems that, should HBO wish to take action against Senaris, the law is on their side.

Carolina Law professor Deborah Gerhardt tells US News that if Senaris is "giving away detailed plot information, he definitely faces the possibility of being liable for criminal copyright infringement, no question... When you have a fictional plot that's an original creation of an author, especially a plot like this one in a fantasy work, you get to the area copyright protects: creative expression."

Instances of copyright infringement for "commercial advantage or private financial gain" can be punishable by jail time.

Well, if HBO do decide to lay down the law, let's just hope for Senaris's sake that he doesn't get a Joffrey for his judge. Perhaps he can pay penance with his own Walk of Shame?
