How A New Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV Show SHOULD Be Made

3. Set It At Least A Generation After The Show Ended

Another reason the idea of a reboot seems misguided is that the show is already set up for different kinds of adventures within the same universe. Angel has already shown that a spin-off can be successful and do its own thing while building on the events of the show, and there's been talk of spin-offs around Faith, Spike, and a young Rupert Giles at various points.

The TV series ended with every potential slayer in the world gaining powers, meaning there are countless 'Chosen Ones' to choose from. Make the series in the same continuity as Buffy, but jump forward 20 years (at least) into the future, thus avoiding too much of its timeline (and the canonical comic books).

You could have a generation where, despite the potential, there is only one slayer again, or someone who thinks they're special only to realise they aren't. There are slayers all over the world you could look at, whose stories are willing to be told, and who have new challenges (both demonic and human) to face, so why redo one that's already been done brilliantly?

Alternatively, you could go into the past. Buffy is but one Slayer in the centuries of them, and while most of them didn't live long, there's still plenty you can do in making a period piece vampire slaying show, but there is greater potential in a sequel because of how it can build and play upon the Buffy legacy itself.
