What happened to Ted, Marshall, Robin, Barney, Lily, and everyone else?

How I Met Your Mother
CBS

From September 2005 right through to March 2014, the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother amassed a total of 208 episodes over nine seasons, going down in history as one of the world's most popular American-based sitcoms. To this day, it's still talked about fondly amongst its fanbase.

This shouldn't come as a surprise, of course.

The adventures of Ted, Marshall, Robin, Barney, and Lily en-route to finding The Mother (Tracy) made for some interesting television. What really made the show, though, was its diverse range of captivating characters. The aforementioned main cast all come packed with their own traits that make each of them such iconic names of television at the time.

As with all great shows, though, you need a genuinely cracking supporting cast to make the main ensemble stand out even more. That's where James, Ranjit, Carl, and countless others fall into place. They each played their role on the show to perfection.

It's been nearly seven years since the show ended, leaving plenty of time for the cast members to move on to pastures new. But just where have those pastures lead the actors and actresses behind these beloved characters?

Played by Ashley Williams, Victoria was a romantic interest for Ted on a handful of occasions throughout the show, deemed his best girlfriend of the lot. Given how her role was quite minor, though, it's quite surprising to learn that she was also a backup Mother had CBS cancelled How I Met Your Mother after a mere two seasons.

Ever since her last appearance on the show in 2014, Ashley hasn't reached quite the same heights. She's credited in 23 episodes of The Jim Gaffigan Show, where she played the titular character's wife Jeannie, which has been her only regular television role since HIMYM came to an end.

A number of festive straight-to-TV movies have filled out her acting CV, including a yearly role as Allie Shaw in the Christmas In Evergreen film series between 2017 and 2020. The 2020 Netflix true crime story, Chris Watts: Confessions Of A Killer, saw her play Chris' husband Shanann to perfection.

At the time of writing, Williams is also set for a role in yet another Christmas-themed film - parts one and two of Christmas At The Madison, with her real-life sister Kimberly Williams-Paisley joining her for the planned 2021 release.
