Superheroes have been at the forefront of cinema for around a decade now and have emerged as a big player in television over more recent times as well. Whilst these movies and TV shows show no sign of slowing down, some believe the formula is becoming tired and overused.

Thankfully, this doesn’t seem to be a fact that creators are ignoring and the X-Men, in particular, look set for an overhaul. On the cinematic side, there’s Logan and The New Mutants, both of which look set to be taking a new direction to what has gone before and further expand the X-Men universe beyond Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters.

For TV, FOX has turned to the character of Legion to shake up their line-up. From what we've seen so far, the show will feature a unique and intriguing look at the struggles of being a mutant. Much like Deadpool, its success could set the stage for a new direction in the genre going forward.

The series looks set to be a breath of fresh air and here are 10 reasons you should be excited for Legion…

10. The Trailers Have Been Great

The first trailer for Legion was great. Bursting onto the scene with little promotion or fanfare, it captured imaginations. Showcasing everything from time bending explosions to moments of dry humour and a comical dance scene, the fast pace and elaborate visual effects establish a zany tone and retro visual style that left you eager for more.

Legion looks set to be a wild ride, but subsequent trailers also made sure to address the more serious moments to come. Introducing us to scenes in which David is struggling with his condition and what is happening to him.

Despite the elements of humour, the trailers manage to really promote psychological instability, which feels like nothing we've seen before.
