LG Launch Their New Range Of OLED TVs

More than a shot in the dark!

TVs have come a long way in the last decade. Not so long ago we were heralding the release of HD sets, and we all sat in our living rooms marvelling at the visual delights that were suddenly available to us through the medium of Blu-ray and HD DVD. This quickly lead to mass and affordable HD broadcasting, all of which in turn has lead to a revolution in television production and standards. Never before have shows been able create content and rich visuals that can compare and often surpass what can be found on the big screen. The journey in TV development is currently undertaking another giant leap this year in the shape of OLED technology, and LG are set to launch their newest range of jaw dropping TVs. OLED - or Organic Light Emitting Diode - technology has been been with us for a few years now, most commonly within smaller portable devices such as mobile, tablets, and handheld gaming systems. 2014/15 has seen number of electronics manufacturers unveil their own ranges of new TVs, and LG have aimed at placing themselves at the forefront of quality and design. At the beginning of the year they signed a long term agreement with Universal Display Corporation for use of their patented LED emitters. It it is with this unique design that LG are able to boast truly remarkable performance. With self lighting pixels that have the ability to individually turn off, LG's OLED TVs can deliver the deepest, most purest backs ever seen in home entertainment. Achieving such depth of darkness results in what they call Pure Black contrast ratio, meaning that colours and vibrancy have never looked so good. Its the backdrop of true blackness which allows for such a richness and vividness of colour in the rest of the image. Iconic film producer Michael Uslan can be seen in the video above explaining why darkness is so important for the emergence of colour and brightness. Uslan is a producer who has been involved with all modern screen adaptations of Batman, including those of Tim Burton, through to Christopher Nolan's trilogy, and has continued on to Batman v Superman. Just like how the caped crusader's dark and atmospheric feel helps to deliver the emergence of hope and stir of courage, he explains how a visual palette needs a depth of darkness for everything else to shine. The image below shows just what a pivotal role contrast has in being able to attain the clearest and most crispest pictures. On the left we can see that the light pollution from the city impairs the view of the night sky. As we move to the right and away from the glare we are able to see the sky in its full splendour.
Available in both 1080 and 4K variety, the full range boast intense colour, and a light and ultra thin design. They also incorporate wide viewing angles meaning everyone in the room can take advantage of the impeccable picture quality, no matter where they are sitting. Take a look at the LG website for full details.
