Making A Murderer Season 2 Review: 2 Ups & 5 Downs

4. The Constant Music

Making A Murderer 2

Obviously the show has a very precise formula for presenting its material but it very quickly becomes distracting when you notice the provocatively-geared music that plays under (and sometimes over) absolutely everything. Musical accompaniment is fine in some cases, but here it achieves a couple of things, one intended and one clearly not.

First, it's designed to shape the emotional response of the viewer. The music says "this part is sad," "this part is tense," "this is where you should probably feel this..." It's a little manipulative and once you notice it, it's hard to drop it.

Secondly, it also gives the show the feeling of one long trailer or recap.
