Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, director of the first season of HBO’s Emmy award-winning True Detective, Maniac looks to be in safe hands. His directing credits also extend into film with Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation, for which he also served as writer and cinematographer, and the 2011 adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, both of which received critical success.

In terms of acting talent, Maniac stars Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone and the two-time Academy Award-nominee Jonah Hill as the show’s two main characters, Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim, who choose to participate in the mysterious pharmaceutical trial.

The show’s supporting cast includes another Academy Award-nominee, Sally Field, and The Girl on the Train’s Justin Theroux who plays the scientist in charge of the trial, Dr. James K. Mantleray.

With both a stellar cast and an experienced director at the helm, there’s no doubt that Maniac has one of the best line-ups of any of Netflix’s original series to date.
