Marvel's The Defenders: 6 Reasons To Be Excited (And 4 To Be Worried)

The Defenders will finally assemble this summer, but is that a good thing?

Iron Fist has at last made its way onto Netflix, completing a two-year, four show, five season journey in the buildup towards The Defenders.

Arriving later this year (and we now know it'll be August 18), the miniseries represents the culmination of the entire Netflix Marvel Universe to date, and is a show that's been in the making since October 2013.

Excitement has been steadily growing in that time, especially once the first season of Daredevil hit and made everyone sit up and take a hell of a lot of notice. Since then there have been breadcrumbs teased towards the team-up in each series, with Rosario Dawson serving as the de facto Nick Fury of the street level version of the Avengers. While we've seen superhero crossovers in the Arrowverse, they're for just a couple of episodes; this is an entire, eight-hour long season, which is a totally different proposition.

Given the success of the shows since, The Defenders is one of the most anticipated series of the year, and yet there are plenty of reasons to be nervous as well. It hasn't all been smooth sailing in this universe, especially with the extremely negative critical response to Iron Fist, which means not everything will necessarily go to plan.
